To accept or NOT this Offer from QP? Pls advice...

Assalamualaikum & Salam sejahtera,

Saya dr Pahang. Berkahwin, anak 5. Skrg kerja dgn O&G Co. Baru-2 dapat offer dgn QP (thru AP Recruitment), tapi tak pasti nak terima offer ni ke tak? Ni nak minta pendapat kawan-2 kat sini....

Post: Senior Operation Supervisor Grade 14 (Transmission & Distribution Dept) Doha base.
Basic: QR16,500 Elaun Rumah: QR14,200 Elaun kenderaan : QR2,000 (yg nyata tertera dlm Contract)
Duration: 2 YRS DEFINITE.

Yg 2 yrs definite ni rasa mcm tak seronok sket. AP cakap, nanti diorg akan revise ke permanent. Tapinya takde 'black & white' pun dr QP. Cuma verbally dr AP. Ni yg rasa risau.

Saya contact AP minta nego sket esp pasal 2 yrs definite contract & basic salary, tp diorg cakap "non-negotiatable".

Jadinya, nak tau pendapat kawan-2 yg berpengalaman.. elok aku terima ke tak? Sbb, semua kemungkinan tu ada.. ntah-2 afer 2 yrs contract tak renew... aku kena cari kerja lain pula.

...just got new contract, had been extended to 3 yrs...AP said, they (QP) will convert to permanent after 1 yr. Ye ke? Sbb takde black white pun dr QP... still confused...

pertama sekali tahniah, sebab dapat offer ke Qatar.

selama pengalaman Rizi kat sini, tak pernah dgr lagi la cerita org yg definite tak disambungkan after tamat kontrak, tapi tak mustahil jugak ada peluang nak dipermanentkan... bergantung kepada keadaan.

gaji... patutnyer utk grade tuu u boleh mintak lebih lagi... org2 operations nie mmg susah nak dicari...

Ni ler yg menyebabkan aku 'confused'. Current basic is higher than the offer.. tp yelah xd elaun rumah & kena tax lagi! AP recruitment ni dok push aku suruh accept, tp aku tak termakan dgn desakan diorg. Dah 2 minggu dok main "tarik-2 tali" dgn AP ni. Kalau aku tau sape HR kt QP, aku dah email/call dia terus.
AKu dapat ni family-packace, isteri & 4 org anak ditanggung. So kalau menjadi, mmg nak bw keluarga.

Qatar Petroleum ni dgn Qatar Gas tu sama aje kot... yg aku tak faham.. kenape tak bagi terus permanent... so skrg mcm rasa in-secured...

Qatar Petroleum (QP) is diff from Qatar Gas (QG)... lain entiti cuma QP ada share lam QG jer.

maybe that post,
1)is to "help" kurangkan backlog yang dah buildup long time ago. so once backlog dah clear... post pun clear ler.
2) Qatarization - post tuu bertujuan utk train qatari, either on job training, atau qatari tuu tgh study lagi, dan akan kembali tak lama lagi dan lepas tuu akan dihandover kepada dia

Cuma Rizi nak remind Insan, salary range tuu... utk family of 4...dah cantik... at least ada saving by year end...

Total package mmg menarik, esp family semua ditanggung. Cuma bab 2 thn contract tu je yg tak syok. Kawan-2 aku yg ke sana semuanya dpt indefinite contract. Yelah, mayb ada reason mcm yg Rizi liskan tu.
Aku tak accept lg offer ni... Nak cuba nego lg dgn diorg.

Saya setuju dengan Rizi. Kalau boleh, negotiate la lagi dengan QP/AP pasal basic salary tu. Remind them that you have 5 kids where normally QP does not sponsor for the 5th one. Hence, you have to pay the medical insurance premium (close to QR4k : Al-Koot Ins) for the 5th child on your own.

Regarding the definite/indefinite, QP normally extend the contract
after the expiry of the contract, provided that the project/ requirement is on-going. Otherwise, it's pretty risky.

Whether to accept/not ..... It's very hard to tell. I imagine a lot of factor that need to be taken into consideration :

1. Savings : Quite +ve .... Again depends on lifestyle.
2. Career : Most likely no development which basically meant for locals.
3. Existing job : Permanent ? Very much lower than what QP pay in RM equivalent ?
4. Life style : Insya-Allah more time for family.

The above list goes on and all would finally depend on individual.

About contract, so far (in QP)I have not come across where the contract was not extended except in one case where this mat salleh offended the boss who happens to be a local. What I have known pulak, ada malaysian whose contract status converted to indefinite. Insyaalah, despite contract status I reckon you should be okay. Notwithstanding,I would like to advice another critical stage/hurdle is during probation period and so far 3 malaysians (again in QP)failed to secure confirmation in position and consequently - RTU (return to unit-balik kampung).

Now my advice, prior to accepting the offer do some analysis with what you are getting/'enjoying' back home against what you will be getting here and the most important is you must set your objective of what you want to achieve from here, kalau tidak you may get a 'shock' become demoralised and .....as you know (casualty). As for me;
1. Job satisfaction - NIL (compared to back home) BUT
2 Commercial - Ohh yesss
3. Family values - 'smashing", here I could spend more quality time with the family because unlike malaysia keluar kerja gelap balik pun gelap and weekend sibuk with cousins, aunties, uncles, in-laws etc.. To help kids with academic jauh sekali.Sekarang alhamdullilah, with more time I am able to spend with my kids, their academic results have improved tremendously similarly their disciplines. one more thing sini banyak aktiviti with family especially the ones organise by our Malaysian Association fo Qatar.
4. As a muslim, since banyak masa, lots of opporunities to enhance my islamic knowledge and faith in my quest to be a better muslim and responsible father and husband.
5. Reading. as above banyak ada masa, then you can catch up with readings rather than merapuh too much in work and corporate politics back home.

This is my opinion, in terms of financial:-

Kalu basic skrg dah higher than what QP offer, better tak payah accept. Let them offer you something higher, then you may re-consider.

Jangan biar elaun rumah tu cloud your judgement, as sewa rumah kat sini amatlah mahalnye - a good villa can easily cost QAR10k. so, at the end you might end up sama je in terms of net bring home income.

Jangan jugak lupa exchange rate QAR 16,500 == RM13,860 and this will not get any better.

Anak kelima yg QP tak cover tu pun kena calculate (tiket flight, medical, sekolah).

The above may not be a concern to you if financial is not your target.

Setelah Visa siap, apa yang perlu aku lakukan lagi?
