DOHA: Qtel has introduced a new international call offer which offers free 10 minutes for every five minutes of international calls. Qtel ‘Shahry Standard’ and ‘Value Pack’ customers will be able to talk more with friends and family, wherever they may be, fuelled by the new Shahry International offer — Stop the Clock.
The new promotion comes following the QR 0.55 per minute international call promotion, which was a major hit in Qatar.
The new promotion gives Shahry callers more time to talk with loved ones in some of the most called destinations around the world. Customers only pay the first five minutes of the call, and then the next ten minutes are provided absolutely free, letting customers “Stop the Clock” when calling overseas.
“Stop the Clock” promotion, which will run from February 18 through March 17, is designed to offer greater satisfaction for customers, enabling them to keep their conversations going without having to worry about the cost of the call.
Shahry customers enjoy clock-stopping conversations with friends and family in more than 40 countries, including popular destinations in the Middle East, Asia, Europe and the Americas.
The offer provides clear and transparent value for customers. After the first five minutes, the next 10 minutes are free.
The offer works on a 15-minute cycle, so that following the free 10 minutes, the customer pays for the next five minutes, and can then enjoy another ten minutes free talk time.
All calls are charged at rates corresponding to peak and off-peak time periods.
For GCC countries, customers will pay a total of QR 9.00 at peak time for a 15-minute call, with a per-minute rate of QR 0.60. The same 15-minute call to a GCC country, made in the off-peak period, will cost a total of QR 6.50, with a per-minute rate of QR 0.43.
For all other countries, a 15-minute call at peak time will cost QR 11.00, with a cost per minute of QR 0.73. At off-peak time, the same 15-minute call costs QR 9.00, with a per minute rate of QR 0.60.
The service applies to calls to Bangladesh, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Thailand,
Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria, UAE, Yemen, Canada, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Norway, Portugal, Sweden, UK and USA.
‘Stop the Clock’ applies to all Shahry Standard and Shahry Value Packs services. Customers new to Shahry or joining Shahry during the promotion will also able to avail the offer.
Coupled with the savings customers enjoy with all Shahry Value Packs, the additional savings on ‘Stop the Clock’ calls give Shahry callers unprecedented low rates for international calling. Running through to March, customers using Shahry Value Packs will also get free local call minutes, making the service the best value it’s ever been. Shahry customers will particularly enjoy the good voice quality on international calls that far surpasses other alternatives, such as VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) calls made from a computer.

Re: Call abroad for 15min, pay for five on Qtel
Dear QtelFamily,
Today (18th February), we announced the introduction of a new reduced international calling tariff for both Hala and Shahry. In addition, we have also established a simplified zoning system which creates two geographical regions to determine call rates.
By simplifying our international calling rates for our mobile calling plans it is now easier and more economical for Qtel customers to call family, friends and colleagues overseas.
The two geographical zones will also make it easier for our customers to determine call rates and keep track of their call minutes and costs.
For example, customers calling Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries from a Shahry mobile phone during the peak calling period will be charged a rate of QR 1.8 per minute. If they call a GCC country during the off-peak time they will enjoy a reduced rate of QR 1.3 per minute. We will continue to offer our peak calling rates after 7 p.m. all days and all day long on Fridays.
Most countries other than GCC countries fall into a second zone, with international calls to these countries charged at the same rate. For example, a Hala customer calling the United States, China or India during the peak calling period will be charged a rate of QR 2.35 per minute, whereas if they call these same countries during off-peak time, they will enjoy a reduced rate of QR 1.95 per minute.
The cost for video calls has also been reduced and these are now charged at the same rates as voice calls.
This new rate comes on the heels of a number of competitive offers and promotions to our customers including the current Shahry International Calling promotion that gives 10 free minutes of international calling for every 5 paid minutes will continue to be offered in the coming months.
