Conflict of Interest declarations in Malaysia
Salam & Masa el-kheer (good evening) Malaysians. I learnt from friends recently that QP's Chairman has advertised his potential COI on the company intranet for everyone to view (email me privately if you want a copy of the said COI). In it, he expressly forbade anyone/any department, to have any form of dealings with his son's companies (his son was named and so were the companies concerned).
This is definitely a clear case of leadership by example. I just wonder if our Malaysian leaders can (or are willing to) emulate this example.

I have to salute our Chairman Al-Attiyah. Nasib baik anak Hassan Marican masih belajo lagi. Kalau tak...... bankrap KJ. Tak pun anak Hassan yang bankrap dulu. Tak pun satu pulun upstream satu lagi pulun downstream. Hehehehehe...

Berbalik pada topik asal, kan ke elok kalau pemimpin-pemimpin di Malaysia kita pun boleh buat COI macam Al-Attiyah tu...
Sekurang-kurang nye berkurang la sikit hal-hal fitnah-memfitnah and corruption (to a certain extent) ni.

Memang betul ada kebaikan kalau pemimpin di Malaya buat macam Al-Attiyah. But then, we have to understand that both nation's system are completely different not to mention the demographic and cultural disparity between them. Besides, majority of Qatari are already rich in a sense that they can afford to have that most considered to be have not in many countries even ours. Take a Qatari operator for example. He can drive to work in a Mercedes CLS 55 when it is a car fit for VIPs in Malaya. A Qatari security guard can drive BMW 745 LI when similar profession can only afford a kapchai back there. So it is hard to imagine that Al-Attiyah's son will take advantage of his father's position when he can already enjoy the wealth there is or can go other place to do business with all the money he has. For now, such announcement serves its purpose in this nation of small national population.
Lets go back to Malaya and see how that act serves our purpose. Despite such announcement made, what can the government instrument do even if it is violated when legal system and media are not free enough? Surely nothing especially the one that violated it holds power. Worst still was the person who made that declaration. Therefore, it is that 2 fundamental system that must be independent before such declaration can be made public. Until then, it will be seen as a show only.
