Newbie Introduction - Newcomer to Qatar (InsyaAllah by end of 2010)

Thanks for your valuable inputs and warm
welcome. Nak follow up tentang schooling -
I understand that QP provide subsidy for
schooling when the child is 4 yrs. How
about if mine is under 4 yrs and I intend
to put him up to say, pre-school? Will
this be subsidised or negotiable with QP
(or do I have to fork out my own $$$) -
I mean if anyone else have experience
on this, bole tolong kasi inputs?

InsyaAllah mid October...after raya that is
staff relocation from AlJaz kl to Doha will starts from end august..

We sent our 3 y/o daughter to kindergarten last year
and we paid the fee by ourselves, not sure about others but
we didn't get subsidy from QP for that.

Kecikkan operasi...operate with minimum staff...dalam 60 orang je macamtu...sekarang ni 100 orang lebih...ada yg tamat kontrak..ada yg dapat option pi Doha
but KL will still be the HQ's for Asia Pacific...

Thanks summer6266 for the quick reply. I guess it will be
that way till my son turns 4 years old. Anyway, I checked out
several nurseries and they are cheaper than those in Singapore,
though not by a lot. Any reliable ones that you or others
can recommend in Doha? Thanks!

So sorry fo the late response. I concur summer6266's explanation. It's QP's policy to only sponsor our children's education when our children turn 4 years old.

Normally, we would send our younger children to school on our own expense. We start to submit claims to QP immediately when our children turns 4 years year old. QP would normally pro-rate the reimbursement amount if our children's birthdate fall in the middle of the semester.

Ok skang all the offer letter thingy, medical, visa and everything OK already.. they also ask me to resign from my present employment.. ok.. clear..

how about the mobilization to Qatar.. how do they will go about the ticket and everything... via email ke? when can i expect them to give the tickets and related things??

From my previous experience. QP would issue the VISA first upon receiving all required documents from you. Then, when your kindself has confirmed the departure date, they would issue you the ticket. Both VISA and ticket (e-ticket) would be e-mailed to you.

No worries. Great, in that case, this clear my doubts. I will have to put my little one in the nursery at my own expense until he turns 4. And, thanks for the link to dohamums - it's really useful and informative.

A little bit of info that I have - my headhunter told me that QP will send us an e-ticket. I guess for this it will have to go via email. I'm not exactly sure when they will send it but my headhunter told me that it will be near the date of mobilisation - not sure whether we will have 1 or 2 days to settle down before we report on the first day. I will double check again with my headhunter a month before I mobilise just to pre-empt them on the e-ticket.

Any inputs from others based on experience?

Dean... ur head hunter is correct... few days b4 mobilisation, only then QP will send ur e-tickets...

so jangan last minutes packing beg... if not, sure terlepas some items nak bawak ke qatar.

when u arrive to doha, 1st thing is they will put u in a hotel...

1st day tak buat apa... sebab jetlag...

next day they will send u for medical, then if got time to HR... if not

the next day to HR, then to your office...

petang tuu they will moved u to your house...

pls remember where ur office is, because from the 4th day onwards... u r on ur own...

make sure u got the number for taxi haram...

Thanks for all the valuable info.. FYI, I did not have any headhunter since i deal directly with QP.. so that is why this forum is such an important medium for me to get as much info that i can...

about the ticket, owh they will just send us the ticket 3 or 4 days before departure? but i suppose that if everything is in order and your employment is all confirmed.. then you shud be fine right?

on the 4th day kene pakai taxi haram eh? haha... bukan ke kita boleh buat some arrangement ngan HR, boleh dapat arranged transportation up until 1 month? pls correct me if i am wrong..

Nik,

Last year, a Msian engineer was positioned in NGL Operation in Mesaieed but lives in Al-Bayyan (QP's temporary accomodation). For the 1st month (in March 2009), he was provided with QP transportation (car + driver).

I was made to understand that you would be provided with QP's accomodation in Mesaieed, i.e. different arrangement from the above-mentioned guy. Perhaps you may want to confirm with HR rep who you are liasing with.
