Sirim To Be Advisor For Development Of New Model City In Saudi Arabia

KUALA LUMPUR, May 18 (Bernama) -- SIRIM Bhd will be acting as an advisor for the development of a US$5 billion new economic model city in Saudi Arabia.

Under the collaboration with Perfect Way Sdn Bhd, it will be the advisor in terms of technology and expertise to develop the technology-driven city, said SIRIM's President and Chief Executive Officer, Ir Yahaya Ahmad.

He said Perfect Way has identified several other projects in various sectors such as agriculture and renewable energy in Saudi Arabia for further collaboration with SIRIM.

"SIRIM is confident to contribute towards technology advancement at the international level in our areas of expertise such as research and technology development, technology transfer as well as quality and conformity assessment," he said.

Yahaya said this to reporters here Tuesday after the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between SIRIM, Perfect Way, a Malaysia-based professional consultancy company which also has its office in Jeddah, and Malaysia-Yemen Investment, a private limited company incorporated in Malaysia.

Also present at the signing was Chairman of Perfect Way, Mohamed Hafiz Hashim and President of Malaysia-Yemen Investment, Rozainah A.Wahab.

"Our role is to get projects which requires SIRIM's expertise to be exported to the countries," Mohamed Hafiz said.

Under the MoU, both SIRIM and Perfect Way will strengthen technical cooperation in areas relating to exporting knowledge and expertise, research and development as well as training and consultancy services.

Perfect Way would assist in marketing and promoting SIRIM's products and services in the Middle East and North African region whilst facilitating, monitoring and servicing clients in the region.

Meanwhile, SIRIM's collaboration with Malaysia-Yemen Investment will be on the development of technical skill training modules and providing consultancy on the setting up of a learning factory.

It also entails technical information and personnel exchange programmes, technology transfer and the training of trainers.
