International schools Empty International schools

Post by noble-man 2008-04-22, 09:48

One of the main struggles for Malaysian parents here is to find good schools for their kids. Education has always been the first priority in the mind of parents. With the huge inflow of expats into this country, getting a seat in international schools is not a choice, rather it is a privilege.

I understand registration for Academic Year 2008/09 has already started this month for some schools.

I'm calling upon those Malaysian parents here to share their experiences which schools are generally good and up to expectations.
Hope to hear some feedbacks.

mmm....this is such an interesting topic. Yeap we have to struggle to get a place. In fact I heard some families they have to homeschool their kids coz there's no more places in international school.

As for me, I'm quite lucky both my kids were accepted in Cambridge International School for girls. The facilities is very good. The classroom is neat with not so many children in one class roughly around 25 kids in a class. They have a big swimming pool where swimming is in their syllabus. Tennis court, playground, basketball and football field (where currently the Malaysians football team is playing every Friday) and a nice sports hall. However, the school is full with Qataris and other Arabs. I don't know why the Qataris like this school. There are a mixture of other countries too. Malaysians pun dah makin ramai in that school. However, the problem that the school is facing regularly is shortage of teachers. In fact I heard other school pun is having the same problem. They have mixture of teachers from UK, South African, India etc. I like my daughter's Year 1 teacher. She is Egyptian and she is very hardworking teacher. My daughter would be able to read just 2 months after she join the school. The homework is given everyday and she need to do reading (2 story books a day). Other than that, the latest news is the current principal is leaving the school. It was sad coz she is a nice lady. Eventhough she is British converted to Muslim, she is very dedicated and encouraging Islam in the education. She did a lot of improvement to the school and the children loves her. The school is implementing a continuous assesment meaning the teacher is always assess your kids everyday so takda la masa end of the term baru nak wat term test. So the kids kena be prepared all the time. Only the bigger grades Year 5 above kot klu tak silap I baru ada term test (tak sure).

So, that's all I could say. So far Alhamdulilah. With such a lower tuition fees compared to the other British International school in Doha, as a parent I'm always bersyukur that my kids was given a such education walaupun ada gak la yg tak puas hati sikit2 tu adatlah kat mana2 sekolah eventhough kat Malaysia pun sama gak.

Alhamdulilah my kids nye school ada Islamic and Arabic class seperately. They speak Arabic better than me hehehheheh... In Islamic class they learnt to memorize surah2 and also the basic of Islam. The principal pun slu encourage the student utk solat di sekolah walaupun dia mualaf British. With the new principal yg bukan Islam ni I tak tau la...maybe pendekatan utk Islamic ni akan berkurangan la unlike the previous principal ni.

Anyway I also send my kids to this ustazah from Malaysia for their Al-Quran lesson and also cara2 bersolat 3 times a week. Alhamdulilah the kids learnt so fast. I'm a bit lucky that I found this ustazah who was a Ustazah in Malaysia's school before. Nak harapkan di sini mmg payah nak carik Al-Quran lesson especially for the girls. Boys senang skit coz byk centre yg ajar mengaji for free di sini. Utk girls agak payah la skit.

Cuba kontek awqaf kat assaad

They can help u on that. The national curricula has Religion delivered in arabic but some schools are already starting religion in English. Some schools even discourage from taking religious classes if ur not native arabic speakers. They'll recommend french so that ur children will score better marks.

Lg pun skola yg I maksudkan tu is run by an organization with lebanese christian missionary affiliations.

Tp ade org mesia anta anak2 mrk kat skola tu. Cemerlang & fasih bahasa arab. Yela, parents dia org ade pun diploma bahasa arab dr maahad lughah.

In the end, parents gak yg kene fine tune smua needs anak masing2. Tak kire apa skola pun, yg penting parents involved & pandai nak meng adjust.

Sama cam kat mesia, nama je anta kat skola agama tapi.........

I think you're referring to Chouifat at west bay

Ministry of Endowment, their programmes cater mostly to boys insofar as I understand it. My friends have Indian & Indonesian muezzins giving Quran recital lessons. Pls go to the masjid nearest to you. Maybe more info from there. If not try Bin Omran or Dafna.

Kalau for boys biasanya tak banyak masalah. Yg masalahnya, for girls, tak banyak tempat yg nak terima, Indon muazzin pun quite reluctant to accept girls.

Agreed with kuda.pasir, kat Malaysia bebudak yg belajar di sekolah Agama pun ada yg tak jadi MANUSIA. Tapi as parents, kita kenalah sediakan peluang belajar yg cukup utk anak-anak (ilmu dunia + akhirat)....takut nanti kena tanya, tak boleh nak jawab.

just nak minta pendapat from all malaysian yang tau...
my family will join me in doha after raya...so i dah checked all International schools...kebanyakan nya jauh from my house..i stay kat muntazah and penuh...only 1 school je yang nampak potensi Middle East International School (MIS) yang minta i bawa my kids datang for exam.MIS dekat Mansoura so dekat la dengan my house...masalahnya MIS ni base on American Education or curriculum...ok ke ? coz kita kat msia base on British...
so apa pandangan saudara /saudari semua...

Salah satu dari masalahnya:
- adalah untuk mendapatkan placement for your children...kitorang ada register2 schools (ASD & AKIS)...ASD tak dapat confirmkan placement for our children as yet....AKIS belum check lagi sbb sekolah tu bukak next week...dah lah sekolah nak start dah in early september...bagi kita nerves je..

- sekali register anak2 kat sekolah kena byr duit..like us, QR500 per child per application per school ..(non refundable ...and fee depends on school)..

- others: are clearly described above

Boleh imagine tak kalau 2-2 sekolah tak der seat, mmg confirmlah home-school, and the teacher will be the mother!

zxzacs,
sorry..misunderstood your earlier question..

tapi saya agree dengan datukbendahara...memang susah sikit bila balik mesia kalau belajar american curiculum (or i guess sama gak ngan british curuculum)...that's why kitorang dah plan, if our children start schooling overseas, the best time to go back is sebelum diorg masuk university..atau hantar uni overseas pun...tak pun, hantar diorg kat private international school after balik mesia (mcm my fren buat!!)...main issue is bahasa malaysia la..

mmg sukar sikitlah...tapi nak buat camne...mak & bapak keje overseas kan..

my personal experience...international school kat sini emphasise more on character building rather than academis excellence, anak anak mesti aggressive sikit, kalau tak kena buli je..syllabus wise advance lagi dari malaysia..so yang baru start year 1 tu no problem nak catch up tapi kalau dah Year 5 or Year 6 tu kena study lebih sikit lah..tapi at least english memang spikong berhabok lah..setengah tu sampai cakap melayu pun tak betul..

It depends on what is your plan..kalau plan nak hantar local u kat malaysia, once dah nak ambik pmr tu ramai yang hantar balik malaysia, sebab senang nak masuk sekolah asrama penuh and then ambil spm boleh masuk u kat malaysia..kalau ambil a level pun boleh juga tapi certain u je macam uia.or hantar twin program..tapi mahal sikit lah.

kat sini cikgu berhenti perkara biasa..my daughter punya cikgu ambik mc balik australia terus call je kata tak datang lagi dah..dekat sebulan takde cikgu kelas..syllabus memang bagus tapi teaching method ada kureng sikitlah..that's my observation..

Hi all,

Just to let you know that I am starting at the Gulf English School this academic year. I teach in the secondary school and if anyone would like to know about the curriculum taught in international schools just drop me a line. Would be happy to explain especially to those who are not familiar with the system.
Anyone has children at this school? Always happy to say hi to another Malaysian.

Adibah_ucu,

Antaranya :

1. Syllabus/ Curriculum : British/ American/ IB etc;
2. Budget : Setengah co limit the coverage up to certain amount or per reference school je;
3. Logistic : You may want to send all your children in one school; and
4. Distance from your house.

If you/ your husband is going to work for QP. Generally, they will pay up to the rate charged by QIS (Qatar International School) only. Pls PM me if you need the school fees table issued by QP.

Harap jawapan di atas membantu.

Salam

Tq so much.. Selalunya kita sendiri yg cari school untuk anak2 or pihak QP yg uruskan semua. Beberapa bulan yang lepas my hubby dapat offer dgn Sabiq. Gaji oklah tapi mereka tanggung 2 orang aje anak yg sekolah. Bila kira2 mcm tak berbaloi aje come the same thing juga kalau nak kirakan gaji disini. My hubby ni nak kami n anak2 mesti ikut sama. Last week QP interview my husband melalui phone aje. Anyway if you free bolehlah cerita kat kami ok ke kami sekeluarga kesana.
Tq agian........
