Seeking your valued opinion - single woman to work in Qatar (safety/local community/rent/etc)
Salam. I've been offered to work in Qatar. Now still in process of finalising the terms of contract. So would like to find out a few things:
1. Is it safe for a single woman to stay on her own in Doha
2. Will the local community have any negative perception or negativity towards me (as I will come alone, without my Muhrim)
3. Is it right that rent rates are very low now? Can get studio or 1 bedroom apartment (with security guard) for <QR5k?
4. Are furnitures very expensive? I'm considering basic stuff, maybe bed, closet, worktable, chair, sofabed, TV with cabinet, iron, etc.
Looking forward to your replies.
Cheers.

Re: Seeking your valued opinion - single woman to work in Qatar (safety/local community/rent/etc)
Tahniah on the offer.
1. Doha is generally a safe capital. Mungkin lagi selamat dari KL kot
2. No idea on what the locals think. Anyway, most probably you will not be staying in the same compound/area with the Qatari locals so no need to worry about this. There are other single ladies from various nationalities here.
3. The rent is low, but not at its lowest. You can scout for apartments in ads online at gulfnews.
4. Here everything is generally more expensive than Mesia except for cars & fuel
Kalau belum, visit jugak qatarliving.com. you can get a lot of information there and join MalaysiaQatar yahoo group.
All the best & good luck.

Re: Seeking your valued opinion - single woman to work in Qatar (safety/local community/rent/etc)
Ahlan Wasahlan to Qatar...!!!
I. Qatar is a very safe country. Security and Safety is 10x higher than our country.
II. Doha is a modern country. They don't have bad perception to anyone. Qataris welcome everybody to their country.
III. House Rent - check with yr new colleagues at office.
IV. Look for Furnished apartment.
For 1st week in Doha, better stay at Holiday Villa Hotel in Doha. Very nice Malaysian hotel with a Malaysian restaurant.
Have a good day.

Dear Roxxie,
My officemate Msian lady came here in Sep 2008. She got married in July 2009. Anyhow, she's still living on her own while waiting for the husband to get a job here. Besides her, there are also another Msian lady who was here alone. I found both of them to be ok.

Babios,
CONGRATS and welcome aboard.
Few months ago, some of us did have a TT (teh tarik) session when 'Jibak' came for his interview. Incidentally, he will also be reporting for duty in June. Yup, perhaps we can have another session when both of you arrive in Doha.

Re: Seeking your valued opinion - single woman to work in Qatar (safety/local community/rent/etc)
Roxxie and Babios...
rental kat sini u guys kena tgk jugak...
some areas are a bit higher then others...
setakat nie paling murah for a 1 BHK( Bedroom/ Hall/ Kitchen) is around 5-7k.
better cari yg fully furnish... but even fully furnish, some apartments tak provide pot n pans, and things like that.
cuma ada is fridge, stove, and sometimes ada kasi dishwasher(Rizi sampai hari nie masih tak tau camner nak operate dishwasher tuu... jadi tempat simpan pinggan mangkuk jer... hehehe)
Anyways, if u guys ada any Q's ... pls feel free to ask... We all will try to answer the best way we can...
Tapi just ensure u guys read the old threads 1st... kalau tak dapat gaks jawapan yg dikehendaki... then ask away...
