A high-level delegation from the Malaysia International Islamic Financial Center (MIFC) paid a visit to the Qatar Faculty of Islamic Studies (QFIS) as part of MIFC’s roadshow tour to the region.
The Central Bank of Malaysia sponsored the roadshow led by Crown Prince of Perak Dr Raja Nazrin Shah, who is also MIFC’s financial ambassador. The objective was to promote Malaysia as a major hub for international Islamic finance.
Welcoming the visiting dignitaries, QFIS dean Dr Hatem El Karanshawy, explained that QFIS, a member of Qatar Foundation, started operating in 2007, to achieve its vision to become a focus of thought and dialogue that leads research and debate in all that relates to Islam and Muslims. He emphasised QFIS’s capability to accommodate diverse cultural backgrounds of faculty and students, which reflect the global spread of Islam.
QFIS offers a diversity of programmes that include two general diplomas in Islamic Studies and Finance, as well as four masters’ degree programmes in the fields of public policy in Islam, Islamic finance, and Islamic studies with two specialisations: one in contemporary Fiqh and another in religion and contemporary thought.
QFIS has planned two additional masters’ programmes that will come in the near future, one in Contemporary Muslim Societies and the other in Islamic Urban Planning and Architecture.[
