Qatari Driving License for Malaysian

Alhamdulillah RP dah settled!!!!

So skarang kalau tak silap kena gi mintak company letter untuk apply for driving licence kan? QTEL pun kena company letter ke?

Then kat Qatar Airways ni katanya boleh convertkan licence utk employees, tapi kurang confident la diorang boleh buat utk Malaysian or not. Should I ask first? Ke just take the company letter and try our 'way'?

The below is based on my experience:

You really have to shop around for the best deals. It would be best not to rent something immediately upon your arrival as the rental companies that are at the airport charge slightly more than the ones outside. However, these are the more established rental companies and if you are looking for points/corporate discounts, they tend to have better deals. Do check with your company if anything such as that exists.

The average rate for a simple car should go between 1750 to 2000 QR per month. This is based on what I have found so far for a decent car. The ones at the Airport were quoting me 2150 for a Nissan Tiida (Latio) in Malaysia which for me is decent enough car to rent on a temporary basis. THey usually don't have any size smaller. The 1750-2000 price range would be available for rental companies outside the airport. There's plenty around the Off Airport Road area, C-ring and Najma/Mansoura (If your in that area). If not, I'm sure there is plenty elsewhere.

The prices also depends on how long you will be renting the vehicle. The longer you rent, the cheaper it gets. So do plan it out.

One thing to watch out is for insurance. Make sure you are very clear on the company's insurance policies, especially for the local car rental companies. This is to cover yourself as road accidents seem to be pretty common here, and about 50% of the drivers are maniacs. Also, it would be best to get an international permit from JPJ before you come. Most rental companies don't allow rental on Malaysian Licence for more than 7 days.

The company I am renting from has an insurance policy of QR2000 liability on renter-caused accidents for the lessee and the price is quite good. Service also is not bad. It's called OASIS Car Rental out on Al-Rayyan street. You can find them online.

Wow, I was away for 1 week and there were so many new postings.

Btw, regarding the finger printing .... She was my friend's wife. It happened in 2009. In fact, they almost gave up. Luckily, after the 6th attempt, the CID Office allowed her to go through manual process, i.e. using the ink pad just like we normally do for EPF/ ASB withdrawal. The manual process was slower but finally she got her RP. Now, they are still in Doha. Hopefully the office learnt the lesson and do not wait for so many attempts before deciding on manual process.

Apparently, some people's hand skin are very sensitive and allergic towards washing detergents. The couple could not hire a maid then since the wife's RP was not ready.

saya ingin share pengalaman rakan sekerja yang baru convert lesen Mesia ke Qatar hari ni.Sipolan ni sebenarnya tengah 'usha line' di Madinat Khalifa Traffic Dept untuk strategise tindakan 'memintas' Sheikh A dari tempat parking beliau sebelum masuk ke office padi hari hujung minggu yang lepas, tapi beliau pulak telah di pintas oleh sorang runner berbangsa Arab....di pendekkan cerita, sirunner ni offer nak arrange appointment ngan Sheikh.....

Maka keesokan harinya,seperti dijanjikan, mereka pun bertemu di office sheikh diawal pagi pukul 7. Si runner ni pun pegi jumpa security dalam office sheikh dan ntah apa dia klentong, pastu suruh my friend masuk pergi office sheikh. Since orang tak ramai pagi tu, Alhamdulillah urusan convert selesai dalam masa tak sampai 10 min....make sure semua dokumen lengkap........bila nak bayar untuk temporary license, si runner ni minta QAR250 dan akan bayarkan guna dia punya debit card...QAR150 untuk license dan balance tu...duit pengeras le apa lagi.....

Jadi sesiapa yang tak berjaya nak melepasi barrier'security' tu, boleh la cuba ngan si runner ni....sila PM saya untuk no H/P beliau....cuma mamat ni has limited english communication ability....

Hmm tak sure if i have updated or not, tapi i did not see the Sheikh to get my licence converted. Ada contact mcm runner si Tanjong jugak tapi ni dodgy sikit and boleh buat without Sheikh in the office. Bayaran dia agak mahal dalam QR350 (kena negotiate maut nye) and kena make sure agree on price before meeting him. It took me 20 mins to get my licence and I did it on a Thursday afternoon.

baru jer bulan lepas pegi jumpe sheikh dan dapat convert lesen terus:

antara tpis berguna nak share:
1. sembahyang hajat dulu @ 1st option..
2. Cukupkan all the documents(eye test,copy lesen mesia skali ngan ori bwk skali,surat dr company,salinan ID Qatar,RP dan gambor sekeping)
3. pegi awal pagi sket dlm 5.45am(normally sheikh sampai pukul 6.00am dhn porsche cayenne puyih dia tu)
4.masuk jumpa kat polis dlm administration tu ckp dr Malaysia,nak convert lesen.
5. pastu dia bg duduk dulu tunggu sheikh datang dan bila datang jer sheikh akan panggil sorang demi sorang utk selesai urusan..time jumpe tu lah terus ckp nak convert..kalau xckp..dia tulis note suruh g skolah memandu jer..hehhe..haruuu...
6.lepas tu kira okey lah..jumpa sheikh sign pulok,g kaunter trus buat..khalassssss....

p/s: pastikan pegi sorang takper jgn nak berteman ngan member sbb kalau berteman ni chances tu berat ler sikit..pepehal pon semuanye dtg dari Allah...

Pelik juga ni...habis sapa yg sign ?..apapun kalau boleh kena jaga nama Malaysian ...nanti senang untuk kawan2 yg datang keja kat Qatar pada masa hadapan..semalam saya dapat lesen moto...khalas

Menarik bila baca macam2 version untuk convert lesen. Kudos kepada kawan2 yang sudi berkongsi. Hopefully, new comers ada Plan A, B, C dan sebagainya sebelum betul2 terpaksa ambik Ujian Memandu. Al-maklum, proses menjalani ujian memakan masa, tenaga, duit etc.

Boleh tak covert UAE or Omani licencse?

Kalau ikut pengalaman yang lepas, besar kemungkinan boleh covert lesen GCC dengan mudah je kat Doha.

Ada kawan yg pernah share based on his direct query to one of the officers at the Traffic Department ......... International licence boleh guna sehingga 1 bulan dari tarikh sampai Doha.
