Hi guys.. maybe we can share of all the photos you all take together with the exiff data here.. we can learn what is the best setting, time and composition of how to capture the scene..

i will start first.. and hoping you guys to continue contributing to this tread.. let us all learn together..

this shot was taken using a tripod..

so.. untuk upload gambar terus ke sini.. seelok2nya.. upload with size 640x480 ker photobucket.. then copy the image code i.e. [ img ] url [ / img ] semua coding mestilah rapat

exiff data tu maksudnya setting yang digunakan untuk amik shot seperti diatas...

so.. cth utk shot yang saya amik tu..

camera: Nikon D200
focal length: 200mm
aperture: F10
shutter: 10 sec.
ISO: 100
using tripod..

just nak tanya apa beza Nikon 90 dgn D200....thinking nak angkat D90 cos one big plus dia ada video cam sekali and i've seen someone buat short movie using it ...the quality is very good....

how about the lenses? the standard one is the VR 85-105mm...do i need extra lenses? if yes how long mm should i get?...and then is there any other stuff like UV filters, flash,etc which u recommend to get as well?

D90 new technology.. tak sure berapa fps.. rasanya dalam 3-5 fps...
D90 memang leh shoot video.. & its quite reliable..
D90 using cmos sensor & D200 masih CCD.. better go for D90 sebab cmos censor kan capture image in high ISO with low noise.. memang best.. screen 3" & byk tech baru yang telah diupgrade..
D200 tech lama.. tapi masih reliable & boleh dipakai.. 5fps & its a semi pro body magnesium alloy..
berat sikit kalau nak dibandingkan dengan D90..

tapi for starting elok jer amik D90.. & kalau ada budget lebih lagi beli D300 atau D700 hahahhahahaha... yup D90 kit lens 18-105VR.. good for wide & zoom.. for starting.. pakai jer lens nie dulu.. nanti kalau dah pandai semua setting & looking for a good lens.. go for lens with apperture 2.8 i.e. 17-55 f/2.8 (+-RM5k) atau FX lens 24-70 f/2.8 (+-RM5.5k).. & kalau nak zoom lak.. for starting leh pakai 70-300 VR (+-RM1.2k) atau nak yang bagus beli 70-200 VR f/2.8 (+-RM6.5k)..

then kalau rasa nak beli potrait lens yang best dan murah.. beli jer 50mm f/1.8 (+-RM330)
nikon provide wide range of lens.. leh tengok sendiri kat web nikon..

& kalau rasa nak pakai jugak lens yang f/2.8 tapi tak berapa mampu nak pakai lens dari nikkor.. ko leh pilih dari 3rd party provider seperti tamron, sigma atau tokina.. rega lens 17-50 f/2.8 dalam RM1500.. tepuk dada tanya selera.. tepuk wallet tanya budgetnya.. huhuhuhuhuhu...

for UV filter pulak.. seelok2nya setiap lens yang ko beli tu beli sekali UV filter.. tak kira lar yang mahal atau yang murah... antara sebab utamanya ialah.. utk protect your lens.. kalau kat UV filter tu.. ko leh jer lap pakai baju dsb kalau dah ada cap jari atau kotor.. tapi kalau dah kena kat kaca lens ko tu.. kena hati2 sikit.. tak leh lap sebarangan.. nt calar mau nangis oooo.. so antara filter yang aku rekemen utk ko beli adalah dari brand HOYA.. tapi mahal sikit ler dari UV filter cap ayam tu.. tapi kaca dia mmg best.. macam takde filter pun.. tak nampak sgt reflection dia... UV filter is the 1st thing to be considered after you beli lens.. & kalau leh bodek tokey kedai suh dia kasik UV filter cap ayam tu free.. biasanya mesti dapat punya lah..

then untuk kita yang duk kat Qatar nie.. kalau shoot siang hari.. kan panas terik.. using of CPL (Circular Polariser) filter is recommended.. salah satu function dia adalah untuk kasik gambar ko tak terang sangat.. & your picture will become more natural.. & satu lagi dia leh bagi langit tu jadik lebih biru & serba sedikit enhance saturation ko.. so memang best utk landscape photography...

The other thing that your should consider to buy is external flash atau nama lain dia ialah speedlight.. Nikon ada kuar 4 range of speedlight.. SB400, SB600, SB800 and the latest model is SB900. setiap range speedlight nie ada pros & cons dia.. cth SB400 tak leh tilt 360 deg, & yang lain leh tilt semua arah.. ko leh baca review dalam internet nie.. ko cuba google sendiri k.. so kekuatan flash nie range dari rendah SB4 & paling tinggi ialah SB900.. kalau ada budget terus jer beli SB900 memang best..

apa2 lagi sila tanya kalau nak tau.. & kalau dapat aku bantu aku akan try bantu & explain k.. cheers.. go for NIKON.. the dark side rules.. hehehehhehe

Yesterday night (27 December 2008) I and two of my colleague doing some practical session of strobist.. we had this session at our site camp just nearby our cabin.. at first we decide to do the session at the tennis court.. however.. it is too bright & it is too windy.. even my light stand and umbrella had blown away and cause a little damage to the black umbrella.. then we decide to shift it to other place where its a litle dark and not so windy..

so.. we finally setup the light as below..

one SB900 set in SU4 mode infront 45 deg from the subject with 1/32 power at about 1.2m high shoot through white umbrella zoom at about 25mm..
one SB900 set in SU4 mode at the back 45 deg from the subject with 1/64 power place it high on the light stand at about 10 feet.

do you have the same picture taken at higher ISO? I have always assumed to up kan the ISO for night picture. So kalau you ada I nak check out the grains vs sharpness on different ISO.

Need some advise. I have Canon 40D and thinking of getting a telephoto for my daughter's graduation and travelling.
Which one is reasonably good? Not the most expensive lah. f/4 IS USM 70-300mm ok ke?

anyway, mane you all letak gambar masa Nov golf tournament and the visit by the Minister of Higher Education?

takper terms2 photography tak susah untuk difahami.. maybe one day.. i'll conduct a basic DSLR photography class untuk semua yang berminat.. aku takde studio sendiri.. tapi haritu balik dari raya haji, aku bawak aku nyer light stand equipment ke sini.. tu pun atas permintaan kawan.. so leh aaa main lighting sikit.. one day.. i hope i'll have my own studio..

data of the picture tu leh tengok kat properties.. right klik => properties => klik summary tab => klik advance
nt kat situ ada semua data.. sekarang zaman technology.. mudah jer nak tgk balik exiff camna.. lain kalau zaman filem dulu.. semua kena record manually..

i dont have the same picture taken at higher ISO.
biasanya untuk night photography esp utk cover event, photog do up their ISO to get a brighter and clearer picture.. kadang i pun do the same.. tapi effect dia pulak.. dapat byk noise.. kalau gambar tak cukup exposure.. so.. kalau u just nak amik gambar pemandangan dsb u leh guna tripod & still maintain low ISO utk camera2 jenis CCD sensor.. hehehehhe.. maknanya camera lama.. cam camera aku gak.. & kalau amik night event.. biasanya i will up ISO just to 400.. kalau lebih pasti byk noise.. nie pun dah byk noise dah @ 400.. pehtu.. bukak aperture paling besar.. kalau ada f/2.8 pakai ler kalau takde.. pakai 50mm f/1.8 hehehehe (best & cheapest lens ever).. atau kita pakai jer apa yang lens kita mampu kasik.. then most important thing.. set your speedlight or flash to rear flash (for nikon) & 2nd curtain (for canon).. ia sedikit sebanyak membantu utk night photography...

sorry for the late reply.. kind of busy lately..
lens 70-300 f/4 IS USM ok dah untuk shoot gambar dan tak perlu u nak gi dekat2.. IS function byk membantu utk elakkan gambar u gegar.. kalau nak len mahal carik L lens.. 70-200 IS USM L f/2.8 hehehhe.. RM6.8k kalau kat malaysia.. lens color putih ada line merah kat depan.. best lens.. huhuhuhuh...

gambar golf & visit by minister of higher education still pending for upload..
will inform if it is done..

konon2 nak nampak mcm lain dari yg lain...haha...

hoh! geng nikon baru! welkams welkams! first and foremost, cuns gilak setting gambo nih straight from camera. nice ambient light from the candle. but rasenye composition cam lari skit je. kalo belah kiri pon gelap utk balancekan belah kanan. cuns kot. just my 2 cent. ntah2 abg mmg nak centrekan the kid's eyes and candle in the middle of the picture : D

lepas aku tgk2 balik, mmg aku setuju lah dgn kau....kalau balancekan kiri & kanan baru nampak ok sket kot...thanks bro..

komen aku lak.. kalau ko rapatkan ke kiri subject budak tu.. rasanya lagi ok.. so dia kana jadik lilin tu sebelah tengah dan ada ruang yang kosong lebih disebelah kanan & ada RO3 sikit.. so maybe akan lebih impact gambar tu nt.. just my 1 cent.. huhuhuhu
