Re: World's Most Peaceful Countries - Qatar No. 33 & Malaysia No. 38
Looking at the few last countries in the index, it appears that Petronas had made a poor choice of investing in Sudan. I think they gonna loose especially from event that took place yesterday. I just wonder how much Petronas managed to ship oil out from the country. Most likely Petronas have to shelve Port Sudan refinery project. Somehow it is much better for Petronas to knock Qatar's door. But then... orang macam Hassan Marican tu jenih keras kepala.

DB...
Some Petronas venture in Sudan is actually making TONES of money (breakeven many years ago!), though some other venture there on the opposite..... just wait for suitable time to exit from such venture. i know sbb I was there for many years...
when I left Petronas... there'r team already knocking on QP's door to gain entry... just donno what's the outcome.... perhaps those in QP can komen lah.....
Pakistan is one of the country that they really need to seriously evaluate again (dlm catagory index yang di penghujung juga)!
Anyway....
From Index tu, Oman seems 2 b the best place to consider within the ME.... nice country too!
just my 2 riyal obsv......

1. Saudi Arabia is no. 108...for a country that practise Islamic Law ? People still not at peace ? Why ? Or is there something wrong with the Benchmarks used ?
2. Petronas investing in Sudan, Chad, Turkmenistan, Iran, Myanmar, Vietnam....all are high risk countries. But isn't it "High Risk High Return, Low Risk Low Return" ?
3. Now Malaysia is No. 38, don't be surprised if next year Malaysia is No. 138 judging from what is going on in Malaysia today....political instability, high crime rates, corruptions, illegal immigrants, the list goes on.......

1. It is quite surprising indeed for SA to be at that position. However, the assessment does not only focus in areas that are a direct positive result of Islamic law implementation. For example, they have poor rating in terms of access to weapon of light destruction. Another area is political instability. These are non-punisable under their Islamic law jurisdiction.
2. In business, high risk also can result in great loss. Only the saying goes in such a way but they may not be the reality.
3. I am also worried about that but I am helpless. Malaysia should take cognizant of this index to improve the country and not be happy about it.
