I advise you ambik international licence b4 datang sini. International licence can be used until you got the RP, during which, your driving with international licence becomes illegal. With that International licence, you boleh sewa kereta disini. A car like Nissan Tilda or Mazda 3 only cause you like QR70-80/day of rental (daily rate). Kalau weekly or monthly rate, lagi rendah la. But, you have to leave your passport (original) with the car rental company. But, there are some companies yang you tak perlu tinggalkan Passport cause Malaysians have long time renting cars from this company and dia org ada macam percaya dengan org2 kita.

QP bagi transport allowance sebanyak QR1k for the first 2 weeks after you arrived in Qatar. It's up to you how you wanna utilise that money.

electrical appliances - exactly the same macam kat Malaysia. cuma, some electrical items come with different type of 2-pin socket. tapi, ini masalah kecil. you boleh bawa mana2 kedai, tukar sendiri or ask any electrical engineer to charge the plug for you....

kitorang lucky sbb mmg hire the same karwa limo driver aje almost all the time...so oklah..a bit pricey but very reliable..cakap je nak gie mana..bila..mesti dia sampai depan rumah..kalau kitorang call karwa center, mesti selalu delay..tu yg boring tu..

Rin, bulan posa ni saya dan geng2 bujang di area TV roundabout plan nak masak2. So kalau nak join meh ler join kami nanti. Bila dtg sini nanti jgn lupa bwk ikanbilis, cili kering sikit & kicap.

Actually makan2 ni senang kat sini. Cuma kwn dah tak larat makan brianni hari2...

Alhamdulillah, I've been for 4 years. so far, life sini memang tak boring, coz kawan2 ramai, kepala sume ok, selalu jumpa, selalu buat activity sama2. it's how you lead your life here actually.

major malls: Villagio, City Centre, Asmaq Mall, Landmark, Hyatt Plaza. ni semua boleh gi. tapi, kena drive or naik teksi (Karwa atau sapu) coz they are quite far from each other, except Villagio dan Hyatt Plaza, located side by side.

I am not Doha based. Dulu, kalau new employee join QP Doha, mereka stay temporarily di Al-Bayyan, until they are confirmed in their position and they can move to their own accommodation. But, now, kena check dengan org Doha la. If this is the case, Al-Bayyan memang fully furnished. tapi, untuk peralatan pinggan-mangkuk tu, sebaik2nya beli sendiri. terjamin kebersihannya. nanti dah pindah rumah/apr sendiri, boleh bawa sekali.

if let's say, if i were to bring segala kicap sos botol2 tu semua and share wth my frens by using contena, would that be costs effective , if so? how much per contena and how long we can wait to get thru to Qatar?
There will be a group of us will be joining soon under QP ( depends notice resignation each individual put )

Racing camel, most of us are bringing famillies (later after confirmation) and thus worry about their children education , ie is it difficult to actually place their kids for prim and sec. schools.. i heard the waiting list most can reach up to 1 year? is that true?

Tak payah nak bwk banyak2 makanan nanti menyusahkan urusan nak hantar. Anyway kalau nak hantar brg2 boleh pakai unattended baggage ~RM15/kg cuma tunjuk tiket dan boleh hantar 1 hari sebelum flight kita so bila sampai Doha nanti boleh amik the next day kat Cargo section di Doha Airport, tp ada kena bayar agent fee ~ QR150 utk amik brg2 tu. Utk maklumat lanjut tentang unattended baggage cuba call airline for the latest procedure & related charges.

tq silver... rasanya.. .rin pun tak nak le bawak sampai tak terbawa... penat angkut .. hehe.. . tapi really appreciate ur info... anything that i got in here will share wth the rest of my frens....

Rin, depa melawak ajer. Itu no tel Karwa (teksi) kat sini. Anyway good to keep that phone no.. Lain kali nak call teksi senang tp kena call at least 5-6 hrs sblm to get the taxi service.

DOHA • While the controversy continues to rage here about the exclusive 'Family Days' concept imposed by major malls and souqs here, a senior official of a leading hypermarket has come out heavily against the policy.

The alleged discrimination being meted out to single Asian workers at major shopping areas over the Eid holidays has triggered a debate on the issue. Many nationals and residents, including a prominent member of the Central Municipal Council (CMC), Sheikha Al Jefairi, have criticised the 'Family Day' policy.

Mohammed Altaf, Regional Manager of LuLu, said yesterday the company had never thought of introducing such a "discriminatory" policy in any of its outlets here.

"Most of our customers are families. However, we have never imposed a ban on 'bachelors' from entering our premises and we have no plans to do so. Our customers include a number of single men as well but we have not faced a problem so far due to their presence," said Altaf.

On single men, more often than not Asian, being forcefully herded out in shopping spots in Doha, Altaf said: "This is nothing less than racial discrimination. Where would these people go if they are banned from all these public places?"

The controversy has raised a pertinent question about when 'Family Days' actually started to gain a following in Qatar. Even a senior CMC member like Sheikha Jefairi had no clue how the idea came into being. Talking to The Peninsula recently, she wondered out aloud where the decision was taken to implement this policy.

It is learnt 'family days' were first introduced by some shopping centres here and later extended to the souqs. However, no official statements have been made on this issue so far.

Some residents pointed out even families sometimes suffer due to this policy. "People do not always go shopping with their families. Suppose the wife is sick and the husband is forced to go shopping alone and if it happens to be a 'Family Day', what would be his situation," wondered a resident.

Yet another question which arises is what happens to the many people of Asian origin who hold passports of western countries like the UK, Canada and the US, for example. Do malls and souqs keep them out or allow them in after checking their passports.
